Overall, NZ's emissions have increased 14% from 1990, but have been decreasing over the last several years. Between 1990 and 2022, net removals from the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry sector (LULUCF) decreased by 21% . This decrease is largely due to a reduction in removals from forest growth, driven by the comparatively high forest-harvest rates currently occurring in Aotearoa New Zealand’s planted forests.
