ETS resulting in an upturn in tree plantingFriday 20 Jan 2012 New Zealand's National Exotic Forestry Description shows that an estimated 67.6 million seedlings went in during the year to April 2011, up from 53.2 million the previous year or a 27 percent increase. This estimate is based on reports from commercial forestry nurseries. These plantings equate to an estimated 60,000 ha of plantings, comprising 12,000 ha of new plantings and replanting of about 48,000 ha that had been harvested. Industry feedback suggests much of the increased planting was motivated by the ETS, say MAF analysts, along with a generally positive outlook for wood and wood fibre demand. More >> ![]() |
