Change to Victorian timber industry policy announced

Victorian native timber processors will be given greater resource security through long-term contracts of up to 20 years under the state government's timber industry plan. The policy, launched this week by the Minister for Agriculture, Peter Walsh, will allow VicForests to sell timber in a more flexible way other than by auction. Victoria will continue to auction timber, but will urge the other states to end administered pricing and open up log pricing to the market.
