Whakatane Mill reopens

Friday 17 May 2024

Whakatane Mill Limited (WML) has successfully completed a significant upgrade at its paperboard mill, marked by a grand reopening ceremony in March. The project, which involved the installation of state-of-the-art machinery and facility upgrades, enables WML to provide premium quality board products to its local and international customers.

The reopening event was attended by customers worldwide and distinguished guests, including Minister of Manufacturing and Small Business, Andrew Bayly, and Local MP Dana Kirkpatrick.

This comprehensive upgrade represents a substantial investment of over NZD$100 million in the business, which expands production by an additional 50,000 tonnes of folding box boards and better environmental and energy systems. This will ensure the continued growth and success of the mill and local Whakatane community.
